The Temptation of a Kiss ~ Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Quentin saw the exchange-taking place between Landon and Marcy. He quickly made his way through the crowd with three drinks in his hands. “Ah here you are Landon. Our party is waiting for us to return with their beverages.” He placed himself between them. Quentin could see the fury within Landon’s eyes. Quentin turned and faced Marcy. “That will be enough for tonight thank you Lady Offensive who dwells in the town of Wicked.” He then turned to Landon who looked as if he was going to remove Marcy’s head from her body. “Time to go Landon.” Quentin nudged Landon to turn away from her. He was grateful when Landon did.

“I will have my reprisal Landon. You cannot ignore me and think no more of me than a rejected dog,” Marcy shouted.

Quentin stopped and faced her. “Even a discarded dog is looked upon with some degree of kindness. You have fallen well beneath a lowly dog. Your heart is truly hollow Lady.” He turned to join the others. He had wanted to say those things to her years ago.

The group could see what had just taken place. Devon was glad Quentin had made it there when he did, if not, Devon knew he was going to have to intervene. Devon could not stand the manipulating dishonest woman.

“Who was that Landon was speaking with?” Sarah asked Devon.

“No one who you would care to meet my love,” Devon said.

“There is a horrid story with them, but now is neither the time nor the place for such things,”Grams said. “She is an awful woman and I will fill you girls in later.”

Brook wanted to know who that woman was. She gazed at Landon as he walked to the group. Their eyes locked and Landon concentrated on Brook’s face. He could see the questioning confusion in her eyes.

The two men came up and sat down with the group. Everyone was trying not to stare at Landon, but they all were. Landon drank his drink quickly. The group remained quiet for a long time.

Landon stood up and said, “Does anyone care to take our party elsewhere?”

“Yes,” everyone replied at the same time. It drew some attention from the crowds around them.

Without thinking, Landon stood in front of Brook and offered her his hand. She took it and smiled at him with warmth. He then took her hand and placed it on his arm to escort her out to the carriages.

“Quentin how did you arrive this evening my boy?” Grams asked.

“By horse my Lady,”Quentin said.

“Do you care to ride in one of the carriages?” Grams asked.

Quentin looked to the sky. “It is a fare night. I thank you but I think I shall ride. I assume we will all re gather at your mumble abode?”

“I do believe so unless anyone has another suggestion,” Grams said. She waited for someone to say something. “Well then, it is off to the Price Estate.”

Devon helped the women into the carriage, making sure Sarah was last. Before helping her in too, he kissed her on the lips and whispered something in her ear. Sarah giggled and then entered the carriage.

Devon took a seat in the second carriage across from Landon. “Are you alright?”

Landon continued to stare out the window. “I truly loath that woman Devon. She made reference to Brook as slumming.”

Devon took a deep breath in. “We all know what kind of woman she is Landon. Do not allow her to drag you in. It is what she wants after all.” Devon shifted in his seat. “Did she bring it up again?”

Landon was still staring out the window. “Ya she did. Cold heartless bitch.”

Devon raised his eyebrows. He was not use to hearing Landon speak that way. “It seems to me she has gotten what she wanted tonight.”

Landon looked at Devon.“What do you mean? I hardly exchanged words with the woman.”

Devon leaned forward.“Think about it Landon. What are you doing right now? Thinking about her? She is doing what she does every time you see her. Making you leave and think about her for the rest of the night.”

Landon said, “You are right. She is not worth my time or energy.”

Shortly after the carriage pulled away from the ball, Grams dove right into the nights events.

“Marcy Croft was Landon’s fiancĂ©e a few years back. It was an arranged marriage by both parents. As beautiful as she is, the woman is pure evil.”

“What happened?” Sarah asked.

“It started with the parents of both of them. The two families had wanted to join their bloodlines for years. When Landon was still a mere child it was told to him that he was to marry one of the Croft girls. Upon the birth of Lucy, Marcy’s sister, a contract was drawn up for the promise of marriage between Landon and Lucy.

Brook interrupted. “So how was it then that he was engaged to Marcy?”

“While in the last stages of their engagement, Lucy was found to be with child. Landon refused to raise another man’s baby so the engagement was broken off by Landon himself.”

Sarah asked, “So the family then had intended Landon to marry Marcy?”

“Yes and they were engaged for nearly a year. Landon kept putting the marriage off. Dates were set then cancelled and then set again. My true belief is that Landon will never marry unless it is for love. Well anyways, a month before the last date was set Marcy’s family announced she was with child.”

Sarah gasped and then covered her mouth with her hand. “Landon has a child?”

“No no no my dear. He insisted the child could not be his. Marcy was eight weeks with child and Landon said they had had relations only once 5 months earlier.”

Brook felt numb all over. She didn’t want to hear anymore of the story.

Grams continued. “Marcy ended up losing the baby and said it was due to the stress Landon had caused her by breaking their arrangement.” Grams gazed up at the roof of the carriage and placed both hands over her heart. She shook her head slowly back and forth.“That poor poor boy. He held himself responsible for quite some time after that.”

Sarah said, “Why, it was not his child? He had every right to refuse the marriage. Lady Croft has no one to blame other than herself.”

“I could not agree more my dear. Marcy takes each opportunity to remind Landon of that tragic year when they see one another,” Grams said.

In a soft voice Brook said, “That is probably the reason he decided to travel the world.”

“I believe you to be right Brook,” Grams said.

The carriages arrived at the Price Estate. The door opened to reveal Landon and Devon standing there. Devon helped Grams down and then Sarah.

Landon approached the carriage smiling at Brook. She emerged from the carriage and placed her hand in his. Landon cradled Brooks hand within his.

“Quentin has not yet arrived?” Grams asked.

“You know Quentin Grams. He most likely became side tracked. I am sure he will show up before the night has ended,” Landon said. He strolled over to Grams and offered his free arm to her.

“You have been keeping me waiting all night for the slightest touch of your delicious teasing hand onto me. You know how it drives me mad. Why do you tease me so?” Landon said to Grams.

Grams let out a loud laugh. “How else am I to keep you on your toes and at my feet?” Grams replied while still laughing.

Sarah giggled with Brook.“I do not think I will ever become use to the way you two talk to one another,”Brook said. “Can you imagine what the ton would say if they heard the two of you carrying on in this manner.”

Devon chuckled. “What makes you think they haven’t Brook?” Devon pointed to Landon and said, “He loves to make a spectacle of himself as much as Grams does. Two years ago they caused an elderly woman to faint.”

“Lady Huntington is her name,” Grams stated.

“Yes well, the two of you were quite proud with your accomplishment for the evening,” Devon said.

This caused a roar of laughter from everyone as the group entered through the front doors. Devon led the way to the large sitting room at the front of the house off to the right of the front doors.

Landon and Devon both moved behind the bar to pour drinks. The women took their usual places on the sofas.

Devon gazed up at the women. “I never imagined two months ago I could be this happy. I feel so alive and alert. Life is good Landon.”

Landon said, “Of course it’s good, you’re in love.”

“It is more than just that. I have close friends, a growing family, and Sarah. It is if I was wondering around missing half of me and I was not even aware of it.”

Landon chuckled. “You sound like a buffoon Devon. Wait! You are not going to faint are you? If so, I need a warning.”

Devon popped the cork out of the bottle of wine. “Someday Landon you will meet a woman whom consumes your every thought. When that day arrives, come find me and we’ll talk. When I say Sarah is my everything…I truly mean she is everything.” Devon smiled and walked over to the women.

Landon shook his head at his foolish friend. Love. Everything. Come on. A mere fancy that will fade and then where will he be. Trapped is what he will be. Landon laughed to himself.

Sarah turned to Brook and asked, “Do tell us Brook what happened on the dance floor with you and Quentin?”

“I kept looking to my feet and forgot the steps,” Brook said,

“Yes but then Landon swooped in and you looked as though you had been dancing since you could walk,”Sarah said.

Grams let out a giggle.

The sound of the front doors closing turned everyone’s head in that direction saving Brook from answering a question she was not ready to answer.

“I am here please remain seated,” Quentin said as he entered the room and bowed with dramatic fashion.

Sarah said to Devon.“Your friends are silly.”

“Silly? That is no way to describe a man Sarah,” Landon said.

“Have you seen one in the room?” Brook asked.

“Seen what?” Landon replied.

“A man,” Brook answered.

Landon stood from his chair and asked, “What is it you believe makes a man a man?”

“Strength!” Grams shouted.

Landon held his arm up and popped his bicep muscle.

Sarah added, “Wit.”

Landon then moved his hand to cover his chin as if he was thinking hard.

Brook said, “Impressive dance moves.”

Landon stepped forward and pulled Brook to her feet. He held Brook against the length of his body and began to dance with her in his arms. He maneuvered them to the open area in the large room. Landon twirled her and moved with her about the room.

Brook was giggling until he dipped her low. As he did, he pulled up Brook’s right leg to his hip.

“Am I impressing you now, Red?” Landon asked. His words were slow and deep.

Brook did not answer. Instead, she allowed her arms and head to fall back. This caused her body to be at his mercy within his arms.

Landon was so close to her breasts. Brook O’Brien you are sinful.

“I believe you have mastered the art of teasing Brook.” Grams turned to Devon and said, “You see I have rubbed off on her my boy.”

“Oh Grams, in more ways than we can count,” Devon replied.

Landon slowly lifted Brook to face him while still holding her in the dip. He was mere inches away from Brook’s lips. Landon softly whispered, “Little girls who play with fire always get burned.”

Brook gave him a devilish smile. “You do call me Red…do you not?”

Landon leaned closer and said softly, “The kind of burn I will deliver onto your sinfully seductive body will scare you, Red.” Landon then held her gaze for a moment longer just long enough to watch her lips part with wonder and then dropped her to the floor on her bottom.

The Temptation of a Kiss ~ Chapter 2

Chapter 2

6 weeks earlier

Brook sat quiet and wide eyed as she listened to Grams tell Lady Croft to mind her own business. The sudden question coming from Lady Croft to Sarah concerning Devon and Sarah’s scandal had sent Grams into the most vicious sharp-tongued frenzy.

“I shall quickly remind you of your own daughter’s scandalous marriage to the father of her child, which is in question though out town.”

Lady Croft placed her hand at her chest and said, “I assure you and the rest of the ton, the marriage is honorable and sound, as is their child.”

Grams remained seated and said, “Yes well, I highly doubt that. Any young woman would most certainly not jump between the sheets with that bumbling idiot, unless she was already with child.”

Lady Croft gasped at Grams frankness.

“Oh shut your mouth Able. You and I are no fools and for that reason alone, I dare say it is best to keep to your own business. Roomers coming from the right source can be very damaging to one’s reputation,” Grams said.

Lady Croft then walked away without another word to Sarah or Grams.

Grams took Sarah’s hand in her own and whispered to both her and Brook, “Direct and to the point is the best way to handle these upright gossipy woman.”

Brook smiled at how bold Grams remained even in public. She was use to it at the Price Estate. Grams never shied away from voicing neither her thoughts nor opinions. Brook secretly questioned whether they were related somehow.

Sarah turned to Grams and said, “I have given thought to remaining with Lady Wilcox until my marriage. It is creating a scandal with Devon and me dwelling under the same roof.”

Grams said, “Do you honestly give weight to the tons judgment of you Sarah?”

Sarah smiled. “No I do not. My fear is for the family.”

“Well fear not my child. I can assure you, Devon nor do I care one bit what is said. Let them talk,” Grams said.

Brook giggled. “TouchĂ© Grams!” Brook agreed with her.

“TouchĂ©? I am frightened to ask to what.”

The Ladies all looked up to see a tall young man with brown hair and large brown eyes standing before them.

Grams burst out, “Oh my dear Quentin! I dare ask how you have been my boy.”

Quentin smiled and said, “Quit well thank you. When I saw you I had hoped to see Devon close by.”

“He will be along shortly. It has had to have been five years since I last set eyes upon you,”Grams said.

“That sounds about right. The military keeps me moving often. I hold many regrets for not keeping in contact with you.”

“Yes, well, all is forgiven, now sit down. I would like to introduce Brook O’Brien and Sarah McMay, Devon’s wife to be,” Grams said. “Ladies this is Quentin Alexander an old dear friend of Devon and Landon’s.”

Quentin took each of their hands and kissed them after bowing of course. He then took a seat next to Brook on Grams left. The group remained silent for a short while. Brook noticed Sarah was fidgeting. Brook slowly covered her hand over both of Sarah’s in her lap. Brook continued looking forward and smiled softly. She knew Sarah had looked to her.

“I must confess that I was under the impression Lady Brook was to marry Devon.” Quentin moved his gaze to Brook. “Landon had spoken so often of you I assumed it was to be you,”Quentin said.

Brook did not look at him at first. “I suppose one will always draw an incorrect notion when one assumes. Next time it may serve you better to ask of things you do not know.”

Quentin chuckled. “My intension was not to offend you Lady Brook. I happen to be merely stating-

Brook’s gaze flew to him. “Offend? I dare say Sir, you are full of assumptions.” She could feel Sarah squeezing her fingers tightly. “I suppose you are now going to assume Landon and I hold interest in one another?”

Quentin began to say,“Well-

“Well let me assure you, we do not. And further more we are friends is all,” Brook said.

Quentin cleared his throat. “Would you care to dance Lady Brook?” He stood up in front of her.

“Yes, yes I would,”Brook said quickly. She suddenly grew uncomfortable at the mention of Landon. Quentin’s offer was the perfect excuse to remove herself from the group. Feeling her cheeks grow warm she had to do something.

Quentin held out his hand for Brook and gave Sarah a quick wink. Sarah drew her eyebrows together in confusion with his intentions.

As they approached the dance area Brook said, “I apologize for my quick words with you Sir Quentin. We had been discussing the affects of one who gossips about others.”

“Quite understandable Lady Brook. Your advice was well taken and I do promise to be more careful in the future,” Quentin said.

Brook smiled and laughed slightly.

“He was right,” Quentin said.

“Who was right?” Brook asked.

“Landon. He told me your smile could change the mood of a room. And that your laugh was contagious,” Quentin said.

Brook’s expression held but her mind was racing. I wonder what else Landon had to say about me and why, why was he speaking about me?

“Are there any warnings before we begin?” Quentin asked.

Brook smiled and said,“I favor most men’s left feet, but if you prefer for me to step on your right, I will make an effort towards it.”

Quentin chuckled. “No, the left is fine with me Lady Brook. Am I allowed to lead or will it be a case of you decide as we dance?”

At that moment, the music began. Brook smiled devilishly at him and said, “I think I shall surprise you Sir Quentin.” She placed her hand in his. “Did Landon tell you I dance like a mule on ice?”

Quentin reframed from smiling at her chose of words. “He actually said you were flawless. That is why I was teasing you.”

“I suppose he did not happen to mention I have only danced with him. I do not attend balls on a regular basis. Grams had us practice to refresh my memory, but other than that, nothing,” Brook said.

Quentin began to move with Brook. “Well you seem to be doing outstanding thus far.”

Brook was looking down at her feet. As she did, she stepped on Quentin’s right foot and then bumped her head into his when she looked down again.

“I am sorry,” Brook said.

“We agreed it would be my left foot, remember?” Quentin said. “Relax and allow me to guide you. It will not help if you keep staring at your own feet.”

Brook gazed up to Quentin and said, “I have forgotten all the steps. Perhaps it is better if you just escort me back to Grams and Sarah.”

“Nonsense you can do this,” Quentin said as he smiled at her.

Landon and Devon approached Sarah and Grams. Devon took a seat next to Sarah. He gave her a long kiss on the cheek and then whispered something in her ear, which caused her to blush.

“Where is Brook?”Landon asked.

“Dancing my dear boy with your friend Quentin,” Grams said and then giggled.

Landon looked towards the dance area to see Quentin trying to dance with Brook. “What are they doing?”

“I am not certain. Perhaps they are both attempting to lead,” Grams said.

The group and everyone else in the ton watched as Brook repeatedly stepped on Quentin’s feet and a few other peoples’ in close proximity.

Brook crashed into Lady Marcy Croft when Quentin said go to the right and Brook moved left. Lady Croft glared at her fiercely with disgust. Brook immediately offered an apology. Lady Croft did not respond. She just scowled at Brook.

Brook released her hand from Quentin’s and started to move towards Lady Croft.

Landon stepped in front of Brook’s path right as she was going to come face to face with Lady Croft.“Good evening Red.” Landon scooped up Brook’s hand and placed his other hand about her waist. “OK, here we go and one, two, three.” Landon gave Quentin the ok to leave.

Quentin smiled and left to join the others.

Brook and Landon finished the dance flawlessly. Neither of them spoke as they gazed into one another’s eyes. After the music had ceased, Brook went to leave the dance area.

Landon took a hold of her hand and pulled her back to him. “I believe I was cheated out of a dance, Red.”

Brook said nothing as the music began again. He drew her close to his body. She could not turn away from his gaze on her.

Landon gave Brook’s hand a small squeeze and he watched Brook’s lips part slightly. The rush of the memory of their kiss a month ago flooded his mind. He still remembered how soft her lips were. The taste of her mouth on his. Somehow, every time he thought of the kiss, it felt as though it had just happened. You are trouble wrapped up in a voluptuous fiery red package. I find myself wanting to get into trouble right now. Why do your eyes always say yes to me? It would be far more helpful if they offered some kind of resistance instead of agreeing with my every devilish thought. Landon did not move his gaze but he did clear his thought the best he could.

Quentin took a seat next to Grams on the chaise lounge. Grams patted his leg and said, “Do tell us where you have been hiding.”

“I have just returned from China. At present time, I am on leave for three months. I suppose you have all heard of my sister’s passing?” Quentin said.

Devon said, “We did and are truly sorry. Theresa will be missed. How is your mother holding up?”

“She is not dealing with it well. I was told the first two weeks she did not leave Theresa’s bedchamber,” Quentin said.

“Oh dear,” Sarah said.

Quentin looked to Grams and said, “I was also told you and Lady Wilcox were the ones to get her to immerge from it.” He took up Grams hand and kissed it. “I do not know how I will be able to repay you for your kind friendship to my mother.”

“My dear boy I care very deeply for your mother. She did the very same for me when I lost Roy, Devon’s father. As her and I had done the same when Clare, when Sarah’s mother passed,” Grams said.

“You had?” Sarah asked.

“Yes we did Sarah. I know Lady Wilcox is your Mother’s aunt, but she had raised her as a daughter,”Grams said.

“I never knew that,”Sarah said.

“Yes well enough sad stories. I shall like to invite everyone to my country estate next week,”Quentin said.

“My boy, we could all use a change of scenery. Who else is to attend?

The music ended and Landon held Brook in his embrace a several counts longer than needed. Brook let him and did not pull away. He finally slowly released her hand from his and felt Brook’s hand begin to slide out of his hand. Instinctively he squeezed her hand at the last second before it slipped away completely. Landon gently rubbed Brook’s finger tips with his. The dance area was now empty and all eyes were upon them. Lord knows how long they had been standing there like that. For them, time did not exist. A sudden high pitched shriek came from one of the violins. Landon blinked out of his trance as did Brook.

Brook felt a rush of air leave her lungs as Landon released her fingers. She didn’t want him to let go. The comfort of his embrace felt warm and right to her. She smiled up to him trying to hide her own thoughts from him as if he could read her mind. Which at times she believed he could. He always seemed to know what she was going to do or say before she did.

Landon smiled then bowed. “Shall we, Red?” He held out his arm in the direction of the group.

“I am not certain when you began to call me Red, but I do not care for it.”

As she walked past him, Landon said to her back, “But I do.” He could hear Brook’s soft giggle. Her tone was deep and seductive sounding. Flirtatious even.

“Hello Landon,” Marcy Croft said as she stepped in front of their path. She looked at Brook and said,“I was relieved to see you figured out which of your feet are left and right.”

Brook glared at Marcy with pure hate. “Yes, well your bottom seemed to occupy most of the space around me. It was hard to view my feet.”

Marcy threw her head back and gave Brook a mocking laugh.

“Please excuse us Lady Croft we have friends waiting for us,” Landon said.

“Oh, I see. Now it is Lady Croft?” Marcy said.

Landon took Brook by the arm and led her away from Marcy.

“What did she mean by that?” Brook asked.

“She is always jealous of new woman to the ton and does her best to intimidate them. Pay her no attention no matter what she says to you,” Landon said. Beats of sweat were forming on his forehead.

As they arrived at the group, Landon offered to get everyone a drink. Quentin stood and said he would assist him.

As they walked far enough away from the group Quentin said, “Brook is more amazing than you had led on. Irish tongue does not do her justice from the way you had described it.”

Landon laughed. “Yes well Brook is hard to describe with mere words.”

“If you were hoping we might hit it off, I have to be honest and tell you, she is too much to handle. As entertaining as she is, I would be tongue tied with her every statement. She is more your type than mine Landon.”

Landon stopped and said, “I do not believe she is. Brook is a friend Quentin.”

Quentin smiled and said, “I was only pointing out that-

“Well don’t because you are wrong,” Landon snapped at him. “I am going to get the punch now.”

“I will get the drinks from…the bar.” Before he had a chance to finish his sentence Landon had walked away.

While Landon poured the punch into the three cups, he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned slightly to see who it was. Good God I wish you would find yourself kidnapped woman.

“So, do tell me Landon, are you in the habit of slumming now?” Marcy asked.

“Marcy why do you always have to be so unpleasant? It is as if you aim to be malicious every morning when your feet hit the floor.”

Marcy turned her head away from Landon and gazed out over the crowd. “Perhaps I am plain-spoken and blunt with my words.” She crossed her arms over her stomach. “It is what makes me who I am.”

“Cruel, unkind, and wretched is what makes you, you,” Landon said. He started to walk away from her.

Marcy hollered out a little too loud, “I propose your new friend does not know all about you Lord…Charming.”

Landon turned back and faced her. “I am sorry you are hurt but that gives you no right to hurt others around you. Stay away from her Marcy.”

“Why, because you don’t want her to know the truth about us?”

“And what truth might that be Marcy? The truth that being this close to you draws up feeling of repugnance or nausea?” Landon said in a hard whisper.

Marcy glared at him and narrowed her eyes.“The truth about the broken engagement and our baby Landon.”

Romantica Short Story ~ A Forbidden Love chapter 13

Final Chapter

Chapter 13

Missy's question haunted Connor hours into the night. He gazed down at her sleeping so peacefully in his arms. How am I ever going to try her about my father's involvement in this? She'll never forgive me once she finds out. Damn it! I got to get us the hell out of here tonight.

He slid his arm out from under Missy and as his feet found the floor he gazed back at her. I will die before letting anything happen to you. Connor dressed and quietly made his way to the door. A loud creek echoed down the stairwell. He waited to hear any movement from the dark cold space below. Nothing...okay. Time to wake Missy.

"Missy it's time to wake up," Connor whispered. He watched her stir for a second. Gently he placed a kiss to her soft lips. "Missy open your eyes sweetheart."

Her eyes slowly fluttered open. "I felt like i had but a moments sleep."

"That's because you have, "Connor said. "It is about two o'clock in the morning." He saw the confusion in her expression. "We are escaping tonight."

Missy sat up rather quickly. "Why will we not wait to be rescued. Someone has to know of our disappearance by now. I mean my brother must surely be in search of me."

"Heath may also believe you and I have run off to marry, Missy." Connor brushed over her cheek. "I'm afraid this is our only option."

He help her down from the bed then handed her the night gown from the floor. Connor took her by the hand guiding her towards the door that he had left ajar.

"Wait," Missy paused, "I'm terrified we will be caught, Connor."

Turning to face her Connor place his lips to her forehead and kissed her with a long embrace. "I will die before I let anything happen to you, Missy. I swear on my life." He gazed down at her. "Trust me."

He grabbed a torch and lead the way down the spiral stairway holding tightly onto Missy's hand. She had her other hand place on top of his as they walked slowly and so very quietly. They made it to the main floor and started to creep their way to the back of the castle where there was a secret passage under the castle leading out. Rat filled sewage stood knee deep at the bottom of the steps but Connor knew it was the only way out. He told himself he'd carry her if he had to.

Connor and Missy froze upon hearing shouts from behind them. He pulled her to the top of the steps and Missy stopped and yanked her hand back and away from his.

"I can't Connor!" Missy eyes teared. Her bottom lip quivered. "I can't," she whispered.

He reached out for her hand and Missy stepped back from him.

"Wait!" she cried. Gazing back to the guards quickly closing in on them, she had but moments to decide. Nervously clenching her night gown in her hands she squeezed her eyes shut. The pounding of the guards feet were drawing closer. "Missy," she heard him say. Opening her eyes she gazed down at him with breathless un decidedness. "Where are you taking me?" Missy asked him.
"Somewhere we will not be found, and you will be safe." He held out his hand to her once more. "Please Missy," his tone was deep and commanding. She could see fear in his eyes.
"I see her! This way!" One of the guards shouted.

If she didn't make a decision soon there fates will be sealed. "Conner," she whispered to him and placed her hand in his.

He smiled and said, "I would have taken you anyways. You know that don't you?" He watched her lips curl up in that tender way that had first caught his eye. A shadow of dark gray covered Missy before him. She screamed with surprise. Her hand left his and she was dragged away.

"Connor!" a curtailing scream, Missy's scream for him for his protection riped through him as he fell backwards. The room went black. Connor was unconscious and dreaming of the first night they had rediscovered one another.

**********

The hard edges of the chair slammed into her bottom as she was shoved down onto a chair in front of a man. He stood with his back to her. His silver hair in the dim lite room glistend from the glow coming from the fireplace.

"Leave us now." The man ordered loudly.

Missy sat waiting for him to turn to her and reveal himself. Seconds turned to minutes. The man just stood in place smoking a pipe. No words escaped past his lips. No movement other then his arm for the pipe.

"Ah I see you have arrived after all,"  Velture's evil devious voice filled the empty space.

Missy did not turn to look at him. Instead her gaze remained on the mysterious man in front of her.

"Yes I arrived only but an hour ago," he answered.

Why does his voice sound so familiar? And the smell of his pipe. Missy in this moment realized who she was staring at. Oh no, it can't be. She watched him turn and their eyes locked. She couldn't hide the hurt swelling up in her eyes. Missy knew he saw it even in the poor lit room. Why? Was all she could think.

"It would seem your son has changed plans on us." He grinned slightly. "Unfortunately he has encountered some unfortunate injuries." Velture watched Lord Welling's expression fall to the side of concern. He walk up behind Missy and pulled lightly as he stroked the back of her hair. "I do hope," he bunched up a handful of her hair and yanked her head backwards, "she was worth," gazing down at her he drew closer, "possibly giving his life for."

Missy gasped. No please do not let this be happening. I can't lose him again!

"Where is he?" Lord Welling asked.

The man released Missy's hair. "They are bring him to the study in the south wing." Velture circled Missy's chair slowly and then gazed to Lord Welling. "Perhaps a drink is in order, Lord."

"Yes perhaps," he said and walked to the canter on the opposite side of the room.

Velture leaned down next to Missy's ear and whispered, "Do tell me did you like it when he had you touch your dirty body?" He watched her begin to tremble. A small chuckle emerged out of him at the sight of her. "Oh I'm sorry how rude of me. You see Lady Ashton, I'm a bit of a peeping Tom and I so much enjoyed peeping in on you."

Tears spilled over down her cheeks and Missy had no hope of stopping them. His icy skin from the back of his hand touched her cheek. Missy's body shuttered and she squeezed her eyes shut.

"Velture," Lord Welling handed him a drink.

"Thank you, Lord." He turned his back and walked towards the fire place.

Lord Welling tapped Missy's shoulder and her gaze flew to him. He winked at her and gave her the most caring look to reassure her of his intentions. Missy's lips parted and Lord Welling quickly put his index finger to his lips and then tried to smile for her. Missy mouthed the name Connor and he nodded to her in understanding.

A loud knock filled the room and drew every one's attention. Velture strode across the room and opened the large solid wood door. "He has awaken my Lord and is requesting your presence immediately," the guard stated.

Velture bellowed out loud, "Well then so be it." He turned to Lord Welling, "Do you care to join me?"

Welling stood straight. "I would like to speak with him here. have the guards bring him to me."

"I don't think so Lord Welling. He is at present tied up right now," Velture said.

"Tied up! Untie him and bring him here, "Welling demanded.

Velture glared at him for a long moment then said, "He is a trader and will remain where he is...Lord Welling."

"This is my-

"Let me remind you who's men fill the walls of this castle and who's men are surrounding every entrance to the castle....mine!" Velture took a couple of deep breaths then continued, "I will not take orders from you. If you desire to converse with you son go to him."

Lord Welling knew he was right and was left unsure of what to do. As he had decided to challenge Velture's word the door came crashing open sending Velture to the ground. "Connor!" he shouted with surprise.

Connor jumped on top of Velture grabbing hold of his jacket. "You vile filth!" He slammed his head to the stone floor. Connor managed to smash Velture's head a few times before three guards jumped on him.

Lord Welling ran at the group of men and punched one of the guards knocking him off Connor.

Movement in the doorway caught Missy's eye and she saw Heath striding into the room followed by Garret and Ben.

After Connor was freed from the pile of men he stumbled his way to Missy's side. "Are you alright?" He hadn't waited for her answer and kissed her hard. "My God I was so worried about you. I'm so sorry it took me so long to get to you." He kissed her again wrapping her up in his arms.

"Connor, I thought you were dieing. Velture said you were-

Connor took her face in his hands. "I said I would do what ever it took to keep you safe. Dying was not an option." He smiled at her softly. "I will never leave you again, Mrs Welling."

Missy burst out in a half laugh half cry. Connor untied her arms from the chair.

"Welling," a voice commanded from behind him. Connor closed his eyes as he stood up to face Heath. "Thank you for going with my sister to keep her safe."

Connor shook his head in disbelief and his words. "I love Missy and have asked for her hand, Heath."

Heath held his hand out. "After what my father hears of your heroic actions here I am sound in the fact he will approve."

Garret approached his father. "What is going on here father?"

Lord Welling pulled from his pocket a note and a handkerchief. He handed over the note to his son and wiped off his face with the hanky.

Garret turned from him as he read the note out loud.

Dear Lord Welling,

My name is Beth Velture sister to Dell Velture. Ten years ago you bought up our land that we were unable to pay on any longer. It had been in our family for generations. My father vowed revenge onto you and your family. My fear is that my brother has now set out to kidnap the woman your son loves in order to draw your family to a castle. At this point his plan is to kill everyone you hold dear while you watch.

Please take this letter to heart and do not toss this aside as silly. I over heard him this morning going over this plan. My brother is very sick and has recently escaped a hospital. I will not turn him in for fear of my and my daughter's life.

Take caution,

Beth Velture

Garret turned to his father. "Why did you not tell us all about this?"

"I thought i could handle it besides I truly believed she was referring to Theresa." He slummed down in a chair and hung his head.

Connor walked over and placed his hand on his shoulder. "Father, I think I would have chosen to do the same thing"

Garret shouted out, "Perhaps you two are more alike then you care to admit to father." The room filled with laughter.

Missy stood across from El. She observed her gaze to the other side of the room. Missy followed her line of sight and landed on Heath. She gasped softly.

"What was that I heard?" Connor asked as he slid his arm about her waist. "Is the baby kicking again? I'll have to have another talking to with him."

"He is a her," Missy replied, "and no it is not that."

Connor leaned down and kissed her neck.

"El is staring at Heath and he is gazing at her like a fool," Missy said.

Connor chuckled against her skin. "Perhaps they are in love"

"Well perhaps she should find a man with a heart or personality. I mean, what could she possible see in him?" Missy said.

Connor kissed her neck again and said, "Something only he shows to her."

Missy smiled and turned in his arms. "Like I do with you?"

"Yes and I hope forever with only me even though it was once forbidden, "Connor stated.

Missy giggled and then whispered next to his ear, "A forbidden love is the best kind."

Romantica Short Story ~ A Forbidden Love chapter 12

Chapter 12

Connor's eyes flew open. He watched her slowly straddle him with her partially naked body wrapped in a sheet. His eyes locked with her's. It was there he found his peace, his reasoning...his heart all captured within her gaze. "Here we are locked in a tower and all day the only thing I can think about is last night when I first gazed at you naked."

Missy ran her hands up around his neck and softly placed her lips to his forehead. "What did you want to do when you saw me?" she whispered against his skin.

His hands gently skimmed her skin at her sides. The palms of his hands trailed up and down. "I had started at your feet removing your shoes and stockings." He ran a finger over the heel of her foot and up the back of her calf. Connor stopped at her knee and traced a circle around it. "I wanted to kiss every inch from your delicate toes to your knees."

Missy giggled lightly. "So my dress was not ripped off of my body?"

Connor blew against her neck and replied, "No it was but not at this point in time."

She kissed the left side of his temple. "No?"

"No," Connor continued, "I reached up to remove your undergarments and was surprised you were with out...them. My thought was to remove as much as I could in a respectful way and then cover you up but I soon learned my will power is weak,  so very weak when it comes, to you."

Missy kissed his other temple. "Is it now my lord?"

"I was left baffled by the thought of you running about London so naked under you dress." He ran his tongue up along the side of her neck. Connor felt Missy's fingers run threw the back of his hair as her body shuttered. "I slowly pushed your dress up and as I gazed at you Missy I believe my thoughts were sinfully naughty. My mouth wanted to taste you. My tongue desired to explore you." Connor's hands slid under Missy's bottom and squeezed. His cock was throbbing in the most painful way for her.

She let out a long moan and it was all Connor needed. He picked her up and strode over to the bed with her in his arms legs wrapped about his waist.

Connor paused and whispered, "Marry me."

Missy's eyes teared. "I've waited ten years for you to ask me this." She kissed him hard and slow.

He laid her on the bed and covered her body with his. Missy closed her legs around him again. She wanted him in every way possible. Her body ached to feel him to touch him to breathe him in. Is this even real? All these years waiting for him for this. I have to stop crying.

Missy reached up to wipe her tears. Connor took her hand in his and kissed the inside of her wrist and then with her hand in his brushed away a falling tear. "I love you Missy."

"I love you Connor and have all this time." She smiled then said, "You have no idea how many nights I thought about this moment. Prayed it would happen one day. Wondered what you would feel like inside of me."

Connor's hard length pulsated with a longing for her he had never felt before. His lips curled up. Do not ask her what, where, or how. She gazed at him and bit up her bottom lip. "Now tell me this," he kissed her neck with a deep sucking kiss. "When thinking about me," he ran his tongue under her chin to the other side of her neck and again kissed her skin deeply. "Did you ever desire to touch yourself as you longed for me to?" Connor's lips found her breast.

"Yes" Missy exhaled hard. She grabbed at his shoulders.

Connor side off to the side of her and whispered against her skin, "Show me Missy." He felt her hands slid down his shoulders across his arms and leave his body. He looked down to see her hand skimming over her belly. His breathe deepened as he watched her hands trail over the top of her thighs.

"You would touch me here Connor," she said.

He took her leg next to him and pulled it up over the side of his thigh. Oh keep going Missy. Not only will you be my wife but you will forever be the Goddess of my every sexual fantasy. He gazed at Missy's face and she had her eyes closed. He leaned in and whispered, "You are the most desirable creature and you are driving me to madness by doing this." He watched her slightly smile.

Missy reached down with her other hand and rubbed the inside of her thigh while the other hand gently closed around her breast. She heard Connor moan and then felt his mouth close over her nipple. "Connor!" she said with lustful pleasure.

The tone of her cry was a sinful call to him for more. He reached down to where her hand was and covered it with his. Moving her hand up together they touched her moist soft skin. Missy's body arched up. Connor didn't stop. His hand glided over her and finally spread her velvet pink skin open.

Missy's eyes squeezed tight. She felt the wet desire she held for him under her own finger tips. It was strange and erotic. Her body was alive and the thought of him watching her do this was igniting things within her body she didn't know existed.

"Connor please," She finally cried.

He had her hand stimulating her most sensitive spot with slow seductive strokes. His hand left her hand sliding down to her opening and with a gentle push he entered her.

Missy froze from the sudden sensation. "Connor go deeper please," she begged him.

He kissed her cheek. "I don't want to rush you or hurt you Missy."

Missy gazed at him, "No I want it to be you. I can't wait any longer Connor."

He threw his pants to the ground and laid himself between her legs positioning himself at her opening. He could see she was in a heated frenzy and was going to cum quickly. Ok go slow. Connor push the tip of his cock inside her. Holly shit! He squeezed Missy shoulders.

She pulled at his back. Connor pushed in further and then pulled back. "Missy are you okay?"

"Yes.  I'm not scared Connor." she said as she kissed his neck.

"I don't want to hurt you," he said. "Missy look at me."

Their eyes locked and he pushed in further. Missy lips parted. Connor slowly slid his entire length inside her. Missy bit up her bottom lip.

"You feel better then I could have ever imagined, Connor." She leaned up towards him and kissed him.

Their embrace was deep and he trust himself within her with slow gentle movements at first. He pulled her leg up high around his waist and Missy began to moan with long cries for more of him. Connor was barely holding out and with every little whimper and sound coming out of her it grew harder and then he felt it. Her body gripped his length and pulsated around him. Connor could hold out no longer and within seconds spilled himself deep inside her.

He held himself on his elbows over her and with breathless words he asked, "Was this everything you hoped for?

Missy giggled slightly. "You are more then I hoped for Mr. Welling.

Connor grabbed her and rolled over with her in his arms. Missy sat up straight on top of him. "You are even more beautiful from up their Mrs Welling.

Missy's head fell back with laughter. He watched her in amazement over what had taken place in the last twenty four hours. I wish I had asked you this all those-

She placed her finger over his lips and then covered them with her lips. "Shh Connor what matters is now. He wrapped his arms around her. Missy continued, "I can't believe you had me touching myself."

Connor chuckled. "I have never been so turned on. Watching you caress your self was causing my manhood to painfully long to be your hand." Connor traced his finger around one of her nipples. "There is so much more I want to do with you."

"Well you have a life time to do as you please with me Mr. Welling," Missy said as she nibbled his chin.

"I will remind you that was said from your lips twenty years from now," Connor said as he started to tickle her sides.

Missy wiggled off his body and curled up next to him. She grew quiet. "Connor?"

"Yes," he said as he pulled her into him closer.

"Are we going to be alive to get married?"

Romantica Short Story ~ A Forbidden Love chapter 11

Chapter 11

Connor Walked down the narrow stone stairwell that was noting more then a spiral cold tunnel. No windows providing any natural sunlight ever entered this passage. The walls a dim gray with black slim of some kind, a mold perhaps, seemed it seep out of every crack between the lifeless blocks. God, I hate this place. The walls of this stairwell ooze evil itself. The sudden need to be carrying holy water and a crucifix tucked away inside my pocket is tapping me on the shoulder right now.

Reaching the ground floor he was lead a library, the castle had three, this particular one was situated in the back of the residence.

"Please, do take a seat, Mr. Welling." The man said motioning in a lazy way with his index finger to the chair opposite from him in front of the desk. He appeared to Connor as being irritated or bothered in some way.

Connor's gaze skimmed the room. He pulled out a chair and sat. He needed to somehow gain control of the situation and find a way out without alerting anyone. The next ten minutes were crucial. Connor has to remain cold and vengeful which won't be easy as he was about to stare straight into the devil's eyes. The man made his spin shiver.

A plate of food was set in front of Connor. He almost did it. He nearly looked up to the servant and thanked him. Jesus that's all it would take is one slip up like that. Grabbing the fork he dug in like he said he was starving earlier up in the tower. It was forced. He knew Missy was starving up in that dungeon of a tower. Gazing up only once to the man sipping his coffee watching him, Connor ate the entire plate.

Missy walked over to the pillow and lifted it. Her hand flew to her chest wear it normally would lay. The only thing she had left of Connor hung around her neck for the last several years, never left it. Reaching down she scooped it up. Her hand clasped it tight and all she saw was Connor's smile in her mind. Is it possible he feels the same way he had all those years ago? Missy opened the palm of her hand and gazed at the locket. Carefully she unclasped the locket, something she had not be able to bring herself to do for quite some time now. Is it truly forever, this love, this feeling...us?

"When will my father be arriving?" Connor asked.

The man's lips formed a straight line. Leaning back in his chair he clamped his pale hands together. "I do believe we will not be expecting him for a few more day if at all. It appears he has left the disposal details to me."

Mustering up a horrid gaze, Connor peered into the empty shell of the man. "I am not surprised by this. My father never did posses the stomach for such things." Connor paused for a moment. Raised his hand to his chin letting it rest there. "What is confusing to me is why my father never mentioned any of this to me."

The man leaned forward and set his elbows on the desk. "I could not tell you why, Mr. Welling." His smile revealed his gray chops. "This part of the job is always bothersome to me. Females and children," his gaze crept for the desk to to Connor's face, "Is always so tempting to play and linger with."

Connor's heart was racing faster then it ever had. Dear God he truly is a monster. Missy is not safe. Think of something believable to say now. His toes curled inside his boots. He shifted in his chair and stared at the leg of the desk for a spell. Finally he gazed up to the man. "I find your statement to be very disturbing but at the same time it is not my business to judge or assume you to be sick in some way. I do not share your desire for torture nor lingering suspended state of pain. With that said I would like to confide in you that when it comes to the Ashton's I...I do carry a deep seeded-

"Please, no more needs to be said Welling," He rose to his feet, "I will gladly allow you to dispose of Miss Ashton in what ever way you see fit provided that she will be dead in the end." He held out his hand to Connor.

Connor stood and took a step forward. "I didn't much like you at first but will openly admit you are a sound cleaver leader." He met the man's hand and shook it. "Thank you for your understanding in this matter. How much time do I have?"

The man bellowed out in delight. "As much or little as you would like Welling."

Connor strode down the back corridor barley making it to the back balcony before releasing all his breakfast into the shrubs below. What the hell is he? Not human. Damn it! What am I going to do?

Heath entered Garret's study without announcement. "I want to know what the bloody hell is going on, Garret?"

Gazing up from his paperwork Garret's eyes narrowed. "I beg your pardon?"

"Missy has vanished and I demand to speak to your brother...now," Heath snapped his tone low and his voice trembled.

He took notice Heath was clearly shaken by the tragedy and unknown details of Missy's disappearance and rose from his desk. "Heath please have a seat," he pointed to the club chair by the fire. "Tomas...Tomas." He shouted from the doorway.

"Yes sir." The footman appeared just around the corner. Garret whispered to the man and then sent him off. "Without haste!" he added.

Knowing the mid hour of the morning Garret took no caution with it and poured Heath a brandy. He took a seat in front of him and said, "I called for Connor. It will be a while before he arrives for his town home in town." Garret sat back and with all the compassion he could serve to Heath he said, "Start from the beginning please."

Heath shook his head. "I have hystarical women at my home. A whole group of them!" Gulping his brandy Heath finished it off in seconds. Garret held up the bottle.

"My hope is that Connor is not involed in this Heath." Topping off his own glass he paused. "Would it be so terrible for Missy and Connor to marry?"

"My father may take it into consideration but if they have elopped there will be no forgivness, Garret."

"Sir...I have urgent news." The young footman intrupted.

"Go on with it,"Garret said.

"We have found one of the Ashton's carriages and...and"

"And what boy?" Heath shouted.

"There are dead bodies. Two men."

Garrent shot out of his chair. "Show us where."

Thirty minutes later after learning Connor was nowhere to be found as well and none of the bodies were him Garret and Heath were now more concerned then ever.

Both of them stood at the side of the road. Garret gazed up and down the road. "Well, let's focus on what we do know about this. Missy's belongings are still in the carriage so we can rule out a robbery."

Heath clenched her coin purse in his hand. "Yes and the two men sustained wounds by the hands of a man, well the ones that caused their end. No gun was recovered."

"And no knife. There are two sets of horse prints leading off towards the north but three sets of foot prints next to the carriage on the same side." Garret bent down reaching behind the wheel." Heath is this Missy's do you think?"

Heath took the button in his hand. "Yes it was what she was wearing last night." He walked to the edge of the road. "What the bloody hell happend here last night?"

"Heath, let us take comfort in the thought if Connor is involved he is keeping her safe."

"I believe that to be true." Heath's attention was caught by the stark cream color of paper peeking out of a a pile of leaves. He turned of his heels with the card in hand. "Garret." He flipped it out towards him and it read Connor Welling.

Garret gazed up and down the road again. He started jogging north looking at the road side as he did. Heath watched him stop several yards ahead and hold up another card. Returning to Heath's side he said, "He left us a trail to follow."

Connor spent the remainder of the day reaquanting himself with all the secrate passages in and out of the castle. By the time he returned to the tower night was blinketing the sky.

The gaurd at the door was red eyed and slouching. "You are releved of your post for the night," Connor said as he reached the last few steps. The man looked shocked. "Provided you return in the morning when I am ready to leave for the day."

"Yes sir...I mean my lord," he stuttered then bowed before Connor.

Entering the room Connor noticed the evidence the meal he ordered for Missy had barely been touched. A single candle light the opposite side of the room next to the bedside poorly. Golden hues flickered a fought against the cold gray stone trapping it into a small space in the room.

Missy lay in the bed on side in Connor's spot where he laid the night before. Her legs exposed from the knee down. A dim white sheet tucked under her arms. Connor looked around the room and saw her night gown draped over the mirror. His heart lept at the thought of her naked body from last night.

Quietly Connor removed his coat and unbuttoned his shirt. Grabbing a chair at the table he turned it out to face the bed and he had the night before. He removed his boots and his shirt. Reaching up he ran his hands over his face and the up threw his hair. I wish this was not happening. How is it I always find myself in the most outrageous situations. The thought of her naked body laying under his popped up in his mind again. His head was hanging over the back of the chair and he again ran his hands up threw his thick hair. "Oh Missy," he mumbled.

The soft whisper of breathe trailed across his cheek. "Yes."
